ABORTION: Another school year begins. How many desks are empty due to the deaths of children when they were unborn babies? Who can comprehend the talents and gifts lost due to more than 52 million abortions since 1973?
Suggested Prayer: May the realization that God’s plans are not our plans guide our decisions in life and death matters like abortions and euthanasia, we pray.
A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: In today’s gospel a king and a builder failed to plan properly and met with ridicule and defeat. Plan to spend time with the people most important to you. Don’t leave it to chance. Plan ahead. Who in your family needs your time, your forgiveness? Don’t get caught wondering “Where did the time go?” Like the builder in the gospel, when we fail to plan, we plan to fail.
NEW SACRAMENTARY TRANSLATION APPROVED: The Vatican has recently approved a new English translation of the missal we use for all of our English Masses. A great attempt was made to be much more faithful to the Latin text of Vatican II. We will all be very pleased to hear the new translation. The English translation is more accurate, and therefore more theologically profound... and so it ought to help us still more deeply enter into the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The new translation is to begin use in parishes at the beginning of Advent of 2011, 15 months from now. We will find ways to prepare everybody for the various changes in responses... probably by means of some bulletin inserts and some homilies.

“'I have no taste for corruptible food nor for the pleasures of this life. I desire the bread of God, which is the flesh of Jesus Christ, who was of the seed of David; and for drink I desire his blood, which is love incorruptible”
-- St. Ignatius of Antioch
